Dariya Nagar
Dariya Nagar in Cox’s Bazar is a breathtaking destination where mountains, caves, waterfalls, the sea, and the sun come together in perfect harmony. Located along the Cox’s Bazar beach, this scenic spot stands out due to its deep and long ancient caves. Recently, parasailing has been introduced, allowing visitors to enjoy the stunning coastal views from above. Dariya Nagar is situated just 4 kilometers east of Kolatoli Mor, along the Marine Drive road in the western part of Jhilanja Union, at Kolatoli Beach in Ward No. 01, Borochhora. As you travel from Kolatoli Mor toward Teknaf, the Bay of Bengal stretches on one side, while hills rise on the other. The entertainment hub of Dariya Nagar spans a vast 37-acre area, consisting of five rolling hills in Borochhora village. Visitors enter this tourist site through the mouth of a massive blue whale structure. Right inside, there is a children’s park, followed by a staircase leading up the hills. At times, bamboo bridges must be crossed to move from one hill to another. One of the most fascinating attractions of Dariya Nagar is the “Shahenshah Cave,” a winding natural tunnel stretching nearly half a kilometer beneath the towering hills. Atop a 100-foot-high hill, a thatched wooden hut called “Cheranghar” or “Addakhana” offers a resting spot. Just south of this, the legendary “Porimura” waterfall—popularly known as Himchari Waterfall—adds to the beauty of the area. Dariya Nagar is also commonly referred to as the “Kolatoli Picnic Spot.”
The biggest attraction in Dariya Nagar today is parasailing. It is the only place in Cox’s Bazar where visitors can experience this thrilling adventure. Currently, two companies offer parasailing services here.
Satellite Vision Sea Sports provides three different parasailing packages priced at 1,500 BDT, 2,000 BDT, and 2,500 BDT, while FunFest Beach Activities offers two packages at 1,500 BDT and 2,000 BDT. The 1,500 BDT package includes only a flight in the air. The 2,000 BDT package includes a flight where your feet touch the sea before ascending again. Each parasailing session lasts 5 to 12 minutes, taking participants 300 to 450 feet above the ground. [Based on 2025 records]
History
The people of Cox’s Bazar often tell the tale of a fairy. It is said that Banecha Pari’s daughter, Himpari, would come to this hill with her companions after bathing in the sea. According to local folklore, stories of love between Himpari and a human are also whispered among the people of this region. Legend has it that a trading ship from Arabia once sank near Dariya Nagar. Among the passengers was a young man named Shahenshah. While searching for fresh water from a waterfall, he was attacked by wild animals and sought refuge in a cave. Over time, this cave came to be known as Shahenshah Cave. One full moon night, Shahenshah encountered Himpari, and that was the beginning of their love story. The fairy took him away to her magical world, leaving behind Dariya Nagar and Shahenshah Cave as silent witnesses to their tale.
When to visit
|
---|
Tourists visit Cox’s Bazar beach every day, making it a bustling destination. A trip to Cox’s Bazar feels incomplete without exploring the nearby attractions. When entering Shahenshah Cave beneath the hills of Dariya Nagar, visitors need to be cautious. The slippery rocks can make walking difficult, increasing the risk of slipping. During the monsoon season, the area is also known for snake activity. However, in summer and winter, the cave is considered safe to explore. Therefore, the ideal time to visit Dariya Nagar is from winter to the following summer.

Special advice
|
The rocks on the hills of Dariya Nagar become quite slippery during the monsoon season. So, if you visit during this time, be extra cautious. However, not just in the monsoon—it’s always important to be careful while walking on the rocks.
