Double Falls
In Ruma Upazila of Bandarban district, one of the most captivating sights is the Double Falls, also known locally as Klubung Kham. Locals here refer to it as a twin cascade or dual waterfall, where two streams – Pransha or Prangsha on the left side and Pankhiyang or Panghiyang on the right side – converge to create this mesmerizing waterfall, hence its name, Double Falls. According to local lore, “Tlabang” is derived from a native word meaning “a basin or pool for holding water.” The Double Falls not only offer a scenic spectacle but also mark the origin of the Rima Creek, which flows into the Pathurai Remakri Canal. This waterfall stands as the first point of the Remakri Canal. Starting from the lush slopes of Sungsang Hill, a red-soil trail winds its way towards Thaikyang Hill. Following this path for about an hour or so, you will come across Tlabang, with Kapital Hill standing on the right-hand side and many dense forests around.
The Double Falls is located approximately 2.5 kilometers southeast from Bom village and about 1-2 hours away from Keokradong. It sits beneath Sungsang Hill, deep within the jungle between Sungsang and Thaikshang Hills.
History of Double Falls
When Will You Go |
During the rainy season, a Jeep can usually go up to a certain point, after which one must trek for over an hour to reach Ruma Bazaar by engine boat. During this time, one must walk the entire path from Ruma Bazaar to Bogalekhe. The road is rough and often gravelly, making travel very difficult. Therefore, during the winter months, visiting the waterfall is safest and most convenient. However, any time of year is suitable for visiting this waterfall. |
Special Advice |
Taking photographs of locals without permission is not allowed. Refrain from engaging in arguments with locals. It is not appropriate to litter with wrappers, plastic items, or bottles anywhere. Since you will be traveling through remote and challenging terrain for an extended period, try to carry a small bag and lightweight items. Bring enough water, light snacks, and basic medical supplies with you. |
Special Precautions |
Travel on the route by military Jeep is strictly prohibited. There is no electricity here except for solar power, so it’s crucial to carry a power bank and a flashlight. Mobile network coverage is suitable for Robi and Airtel. Crossing some places involves wading through creeks. However, some spots in the creeks are very deep, so utmost caution is necessary. Particularly, the water in deeper areas appears dark blue due to its extreme depth. |
