Siddheshari Kali Mandir
The Central Temple Located In The Main Market Of Meherpur District Is Considered Significant For The Local Hindu Community. Although The Temple Is Recognized As The Oldest In The District, Its Exact Founding History Is Unknown. Inside The Temple, There Is A Statue Of Bala Devi, Which Was Installed By Raja Goyala Choudhury Or His Descendants. However, Inscriptions On The Temple Walls State That The Temple Was Constructed In Bengali Year 1332 By Nitya Gopala Saha’s Wife Pachu Bala Dasi, With The Installation Of Bala Dasi’s Statue.
During The Liberation War Of 1971, Pakistani Forces And Their Collaborators Destroyed The Statue Of Bala Dasi. After The War, The Local Hindus Rebuilt The Statue And Resumed Regular Worship. Since Then, Kali Puja, Durga Puja, And Saraswati Puja Are Celebrated Here Every Year. A Fair Is Also Organized Around The End Of The Bengali Month Of Baishakh (April-May) Surrounding The Temple. Every Year, People Sacrifice Goats In Front Of The Temple Courtyard For The Well-Being Of Themselves And Their Society. People Come To Worship At This Temple Not Only From Various Regions Of Bangladesh But Also From West Bengal, India.
In Undivided India, There Is A Famous Temple Known As Siddheshwari Kali Temple. After The Partition Of India, Hindu Devotees In Meherpur Started A Branch Of Siddheshwari Kali Temple In Tehatta, West Bengal, Named Meherpur’s Siddheshwari Kali Temple, Where Devout Hindus Of The Area Gather. The Activities Of This Temple In Tehatta Are Coordinated With Meherpur’s Siddheshwari Kali Temple, And Similar Rituals Are Performed Simultaneously. In 2004, The Statue Of Bala Devi Was Immersed In The Bhairav River.
