Laboni Point
Due to its close proximity to Cox’s Bazar city, Laboni Beach or Laboni Point is considered the main beach by tourists. It takes only 15 minutes to walk from Kolatoli Beach to Laboni Beach. Many people also know Laboni Point as the “Old Sea Beach” or refer to it as the “Old Cox’s Bazar Sea Beach.” The famous Jhinuk Market, well-known among visitors to Cox’s Bazar Beach, is located at Laboni Point. Additionally, there are numerous small and large shops selling seashells, shell necklaces, dried seafood, and a variety of attractive items imported via border routes from Myanmar, Thailand, China, and other countries. Visiting Cox’s Bazar Beach without experiencing Laboni Beach almost feels like missing the true beauty of the sea. However, due to erosion caused by ocean waves, many shops that once stood here have been lost to the sea. Laboni Point is also home to a beautiful casuarina forest, which adds a unique charm to the beach.
Laboni Beach is one of the three most popular beaches in Cox’s Bazar and was the first tourist point to gain widespread recognition among visitors. The beach provides proper facilities for rinsing off after a swim in the sea. Additionally, Laboni Point offers mobile locker services, allowing tourists to securely store their belongings, such as mobile phones and wallets, before taking a swim. According to 2024 records, the rental charge for these mobile lockers is 40 BDT per hour. Apart from mobile locker services, there are also locker facilities in the bathing and restroom areas, which cost 20 BDT per hour.

Tourists visit Cox’s Bazar throughout the year. However, the appearance of the sea beach changes with every season—whether it is winter, monsoon, spring, or summer. The beach also takes on different shades from dawn to midday, offering a unique experience at every hour. Every day, countless local and international tourists visit this stunning coastline. However, the best time to visit Cox’s Bazar is from October to March, as there is less rainfall and the weather remains pleasant, making it a peak season for travelers.

Special advice
|
Before traveling to Cox’s Bazar, check the weather forecast. Every year, many accidents occur while swimming in the sea. To stay safe, avoid going too deep—stay as close to the shore as possible and remain cautious. Strong waves can make you lose balance, putting you in a life-threatening situation. Avoid talking to strangers on the beach late at night, especially unknown women, as it may lead to trouble. Even if you are with a female companion, staying on the beach late at night can sometimes be risky. When buying or transporting anything, negotiate the price beforehand. Do not take photos of locals without their permission, and avoid getting into arguments with them. Help keep the beach clean—do not litter by throwing plastic waste, fruit peels, or bottles. If needed, carry a life jacket for safety. Be extra careful while handling corals, as they are often sharp.

Special Precautions |
Staying in the Jhau forest after dusk can be dangerous, so it’s best to move to a safe distance before evening. From Kolatoli Beach to Laboni Beach, there are several hidden canals. The Cox’s Bazar beach is typically 200 meters (660 feet) wide during high tide and expands to 400 meters (1,300 feet) during low tide. During low tide, quicksand areas emerge, making it hazardous. Many tourists lose their lives due to carelessness during low tide. It is advisable to avoid swimming during low tide. Following the signals from the security posts can help ensure safety while swimming. The posts raise red and green flags according to the tide conditions. Swimming is considered safe when the red-yellow and green flags are up. |
