Baklai Falls
Baklai Waterfall is located in Baklai village of Nighting Moujar in Thanchi Upazila of Bandarban District, Bangladesh. Also known as “Baktlai Jharna” by locals. Basically on the way from Keokradong to Tajingdong, after passing Baklai Village and an hour’s walk from there, Baklai Falls is located. Baklai village is well known as a trekker’s shelter or camping spot. There is also a Bangladesh Army camp here. About 20 families live in each of the surrounding villages or neighborhoods. Baklai Falls is clearly visible from about 110 km from Ruma and about 45 km from Thanchi. Baklai Falls is about 380 feet high. Which is currently known as the highest and one of the most beautiful fountains in Bangladesh. But there is disagreement about the height. Because the exact height difference between Liluk/Langlok Jharna and Baklai Jharna is not yet known. Baklai village is nestled deep within the hills of Bandarban. To be more precise, it is located between two of the country’s significant mountains, Keokradong and Tazingdong. The waterfall in this village cascades down in two stages before reaching the ground below.
History of Baklai Falls
The exact date is unknown, but it is estimated that a group of tourists visited the depths of Bandarban around ten to twelve years ago. They spent over a month exploring the hills of Bandarban. During this journey, they discovered the Baklai waterfall from above. Later, another group of explorers heard the sound of rushing water when they reached a spot near the waterfall. Intrigued by the loud noise, they ventured closer to find its source and ultimately discovered the Baklai waterfall. Since then, tourists have started visiting the site. However, the number of visitors remains low because many are still unaware of this hidden gem.

When Will You Go |
During monsoon nature surrounds itself with its own beauty but during this time the waterfall and its surroundings are very dangerous. However, if you want to go, during the rainy season, jeeps going to Ruma often go up to Kaikxyangjiri and then you have to travel by engine boat for more than 1 hour to Rumabazar.During this time, the entire route of the waterfall from Rumabazar has to be walked on foot. Traveling to the lake is safest and most convenient in winter as the roads are unpaved and muddy, making transportation difficult. The best time to visit Bagalek is considered to be from the beginning of November to the month of March next year. |
Special Advice |
Since there are no transportation facilities from Thanchi to the Baklai waterfall, the entire journey must be made on foot. However, the area is quite safe during the day. Along the way, you’ll come across several small settlements of indigenous communities, such as Tutong Para, Headman Para, Kaiton Para, and others. The presence of a Bangladesh Army camp in the area, providing round-the-clock security, further ensures the region’s safety. Photographs of locals may not be taken without permission. Avoid getting into arguments with locals. It is not proper to throw shells or plastic items and bottles anywhere. Since you have to go for a trek of about 4-5 hours in remote areas, try to carry small bags and light things as much as possible. Carry enough water, light food and first aid supplies.

Special precautions |
As there is an army camp basically in Baklai village, the Keokradong to Tajingdong trek route provides proper guide services with added security for travelers or trekkers. Due to the terrible mountain road and lack of sufficient initiative, very few tourists can reach the foot of this waterfall. However, since 2015 due to security reasons, travel on this route has been stopped, so you can visit the fountain from these two routes – Thanchi and Ruma. |
